Blue Ribbon #208 Cookies Raise Money for Shawn Schneider Fund Print E-mail

You can help support the family of fallen Lake City Police Officer Shawn Schneider by simply buying a cookie.

The Hanisch Bakery and Coffee shop in Red Wing started selling Blue Ribbon #208 cookies on the day of Officer Schneider's funeral. The cookies are $2 a piece, and all proceeds will be donated to the Shawn Schneider Fund.

Schneider died on Dec. 30 after being shot on the job. Bakery Owner Bill Hanisch tells KSTP.com "I have a lot of police officer customers and one of them brought up the idea... I think it's a nice gesture."

Hanisch says the design of the cookie includes the number 208 for Schneider's badge number, and a blue line to symbolize blue lights that are left on when an officer is injured.

If you want to buy a cookie your best bet is to head to the bakery. Hanisch says the cookies are made with butter cream, so they don't travel well. The cookies will be sold through the end of January.

The bakery is located at 410 W 3rd Street in Red Wing.

Officer Schneider Donation & Fundraiser Information Print E-mail

Supporting our community, especially the individuals that keep us safe is very important, as is pulling together when tragedy strikes so close to home.

Shawn Steven Schneider, age 32, of Lake City, passed away on Dec. 30, 2011, as a result of a critical injury that occurred while responding to a domestic call on Dec. 19, 2011.

Lake Hits 95 wants to do what we can to help the Schneider family and community throughout this difficult time. Many people within the Lake City Community and surrounding area are looking for ways to  help. Lets show the Schneider family as well as area law enforcement that the Lake City community supports and appreciates what they do for us each and every day, and that they are in our thoughts and prayers. If your group or business wants to be a part of the online listing email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The family is asking for cash donations only. This is an excerpt from a recent press release: At this time the only really needs are for cash and check donations to help with all the understandable costs that are obviously a concern. They are being well cared for with food and beverages. They have places to stay here in town with a hotel supported them as well as the Cop Apartments Donny Bray and others support. So really all basic day to day needs are being met. If you hear of people or organizations asking for ways to help the Schneider Family the best donation is cash. Gift cards, gas cards and other product or food is not necessary. If it is cash then the family has the flexibility to use the cash for anything from deferring medical costs to parking to paying bills while they miss work and remain at Shawn’s side.
